Fancy some large, plastic, pop art dangles that resemble your face or perhaps your dog’s? If you’re intrigued or even weirded out, read on.

Straight out of Sydney, Doodad and Fandango is making Japan-in-the-90s inspired accessories for the courageous and bold. As if the name doesn’t say it all – the brand inspires individuality through its custom pieces and bright designs.

Doodad and Fandango uses inlaid pieces of Perspex and laminate, which is hard wearing and has the look and feel of shiny resin. All of the jewellery is made to order on premises in Sydney by designer Nikita Margarita – which ensures quality control and means you’re supporting local design and onshore production.

Margarita is a trained silversmith and jeweller with over ten years industry experience. She says Doodad and Fandango encapsulates her love for colour and pop art in the medium of fantastic plastic. Inspired by the costume jewellery heyday of the 1930s to 1950s, when metal was scarce and new materials like bakelite and celluloid were being used to create fun and irreverent jewellery.

Because the jewellery is made to order, they don’t go on sale at the end of each season to clear stock. That’s one way the brand is reducing waste, but there’s more, all of Doodad and Fandango’s perspex waste is recycled. The laminates used are sourced from local manufacturers. The paper packaging can be recycled, and the plastic post pack that your doodads arrive in can be dropped off at your local REDcycle point for recycling.

REDcycle is a Melbourne-based consulting and recycling organisation that is innovating in plastic waste management. Together with Replas, they turn the recycled soft plastics into new products like fitness circuits, outdoor furniture, bollards, signage and more. SO. COOL.

Another great effort towards sustainability is Doodad and Fandango’s commitment to the longevity of your ear candy. If your earrings dislodge in any way, Margarita will bring them back to life for free or a small cost, you just cover postage.

That’s just a few reasons to love this wild and wonderful accessory brand, but the earrings speak for themselves. Head to the website to see the collection.
